Aquatic Complex is situated in the heart of Thrissur City, which is known as the cultural capital of Kerala.

 

In the beginning of 1987, it was a dream come true for the Thrissur District Sports Council when the Aquatic Complex opened to the pubic by the Hon. Chief Minister Mr. K. Karunakaran. It took only 10 months to construct the whole complex in the middle of 2 acres of land without compromising any international standards.

 

There are race pool, diving pool, indoor practice pool, gym etc. inside the Thrissur Aquatic Complex. Two dormitories for participants, which can accommodate about 500, is part of the part of the Complex. The diving pool and race pools are separated. Diving pool is equipped with high-board diving facility. Both pools have facility for under-water photography. Nearly 10,000 thousand people can watch the events from the gallery at the either side of the pools. A full-fledged water treatment plant, which can supply water through out, is also part of the complex.

 

Both Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Kerala State Sports Council (KSSC) has conducted several training program for all levels of swimmers.  Professional coaches are available at the pool as well.

 

Four national-level meets and seven state level meets are conducted in the Aquatic Complex. The important events were,

 

1987 – National Games

1991 – National Aquatic Championships (Organized by Railways)

1992 – All India Inter-Varsity Championships (Organised by Calicut University)

1994 - All India Inter-Varsity Championships (Organised by Calicut University)

2002 – 56th Senior National Aquatic Championships (Organised by Kerala Aquatic Council)
